Kinshasa, June 3, 2024 – The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) is actively participating in the 20th meeting of the Parties for the Congo Basin Forest Partnership (CBFP), holding in Kinshasa from June 3 to 5, 2024. This significant gathering brings together key stakeholders to discuss the future of one of the world's most crucial forest ecosystems.

WWF is contributing its extensive expertise through participation in high-level panel discussions and the organization of six side events covering a range of critical themes. These include Human-Wildlife Coexistence, Enhancing Respect for Human Rights in the Fight Against Wildlife Crime, the COMIFAC-WWF Initiative to Increase International Finance Flow for High Integrity Forest in the Congo Basin, the Congo Basin Monitoring and Evaluation Database, Key Biodiversity Areas, and a replicable model for co-management of protected areas, exemplified by the case of Salonga National Park.

“These discussions and presentations underscore WWF's commitment to fostering sustainable development, conserving biodiversity, and addressing the socio-economic challenges faced by communities within the Congo Basin,” states Dr. Martin Kabaluapa, WWF Regional Director for the Congo Basin. According to him, “The organization's hands-on approach in the field highlights the practical impact of its initiatives, ranging from protecting endangered species to promoting community-led conservation efforts.”

In addition to these engagements, WWF also hosts an exhibition stand, offering attendees a closer look at its conservation achievements and providing vital information about ongoing projects in the Congo Basin. This platform will facilitate knowledge exchange and collaboration, reinforcing WWF's dedication to preserving this vital region.

The Congo Basin's forests are crucial for global biodiversity, climate regulation, and the livelihoods of millions. WWF's participation in the CBFP meeting reflects its unwavering commitment to safeguarding these invaluable resources for future generations.
